Adolph Robert Thornton Jr., better known by his stage name Young Dolph (July 27, 1985 – November 17, 2021), was an American rapper. King of Memphis, his debut studio album, was released in 2016 and reached number 49 on the Billboard 200 chart. On O.T. Genasis’ successful single “Cut It,” which reached number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100, he was featured. Rich Slave, Young Dolph’s seventh album, was released in 2020 and debuted at number four on the Billboard 200, making it his highest-charting output. He was shot and killed in Memphis, Tennessee on November 17, 2021.
The city of Memphis has proposed renaming a street in Thornton’s name. The roadway was renamed Adolph “Young Dolph” Thornton Jr Avenue, which is located on the corner of Dunn Avenue and Airways Boulevard, just east of Castilia Heights (where Dolph was raised) and not far from where Dolph was assassinated.
