Since the mid-1990s, the Nike Air More Uptempo has drawn attention off the court for its experimental, retro arrangements, as well as for its on-court colors.
The Scottie Pippen-inspired style has recently resurfaced in a sleek “Black” and “Purple” color scheme. The next take on the Wilson Smith-designed basketball shoe from 1996 opts for a near-tonal “Black” ensemble across its upper and sole unit, similar to a recently-surfaced “Black/Royal” pair. The profiles’ pop art-inspired “AIR” letters have a regal purple accent that quickly harkens back to the original Air More Uptempo while also adding a fresh style to the Swoosh’s footwear lineup. Each exaggerated letter along the profiles has a glossy, cracked texture, adding to the iconic hoops-ready sneaker’s tradition of experimentation. Swoosh emblems on the toe, spine, and sole unit further emphasize the pair’s “Purple” theme.
The brand hasn’t revealed any firm Nike.com release dates, but that’s sure to change as the summer progresses. Larger children’s sizes are also anticipated to arrive.
